What is asbestos?

Asbestos is a naturally occurring mineral that is composed of long and thin fibrous crystals. However, Asbestos is a highly unstable and dangerous substance. It was commonly used as a fire-resistance material for homes in Canada, as well as providing insulation.

What are the dangers of asbestos?

Asbestos is very unstable substance and when it is disturbed by abrasion or other processes the fibrous particles are released in to the atmosphere. Inhalation of asbestos fibres can lead to various dangerous lung conditions, including mesothelioma, asbestosis, and lung cancer. Asbestos, and specifically the removal of asbestos products, is now a highly regulated safety hazard.

If inhaled, asbestos was revealed to be carcinogenic and harmful. Some conditions include mesothelioma, asbestosis, and lung cancer.

Therefore, the removal or abatement of asbestos products from the home is highly recommended. Where was asbestos used?

Asbestos has been used in construction as an effective insulator and fireproofing agent for decades. Because of it’s makeup it was easily applied to several materials, specific to construction these materials can include: wall paper, cement, drywall mud, plaster, popcorn ceiling and acoustical texturing, floor tiles, glue and adhesives commonly used in construction, vermiculite insulation (used in ceilings, piping, cinderblock walls etc.), tape used in HVAC joints.

Step One

After gathering basic information, our Advanced Demolition experts will visit your home/place of business to conduct a full examination. This includes an analysis of all possible areas of your home/business that may contain asbestos. Upon compiling adequate samples from the products and materials throughout your property, we will have the samples tested by EMSL Analytical Inc. Once we know what areas of your home require abatement we will give you a comprehensive estimate to remove the harmful products.

Step Two

If asbestos is found, the removal of it must follow strict guidelines outlined by the government for setup of training, setup of containments, monitoring during demolition, cleanup, and disposal of refuse.

Upon acceptance of the estimate, our asbestos abatement team will remove all materials containing asbestos safely and effectively. Our thorough removal ensures there are no trace asbestos materials remaining.

For more information see the Alberta Asbestos Abatement Manual for more information.

Step Three

All dangerous asbestos-containing material will be removed according to environmental standards. This way, not only is the health of the individuals in your home safe, the health of everyone else is ensured as well.
